THE HISTORY OF EAR CANDLING
Ear Candling (or coning) is not a new Alternative therapy. This gentle, non-invasive therapy has been documented dating back to 2500 B.C. There is solid evidence showing that people used and were familiar with the practice of ear candling.
Ancient cultures, including those of Egypt, India, Tibet, the Mayan, Aztec and Native American Cultures made reference to the use of ear candles. Ancient candles were of parchment and clay.
Cones are made of strips of unbleached cotton or linen dipped in paraffin and/or beeswax with herbs. The spiral roll built into the candles during production creates the same effect as the ancient pottery cones - which created a downward spiral flow of the smoke and heated air. This carries the herb filled smoke into the ear canal. The action is a counter clockwise flow caused by a gentle vacuum action of the cone sealing the opening of the ear canal. The warm herbal smoke softens the debris in the ear canal and the gentle vacuum created brings up the debris. During this gentle process excess fluid that sits in the ear canal is evaporated. Fluid that is allowed to sit in the ear canal and sinus cavities becomes thick and glue like attracting bacteria and creating nasal and sinus issues.
Common wax and fluid build up muffles hearing and hinders taste and smell. Yeast, debris from allergies, wax and fluid build up removed regularly by ear candling will restore better hearing, relieve tension or pressure in the ear and sinus cavities.
A session usually lasts from 30-45 minutes depending upon the amount of solid debris and fluid in each ear. A gentle massage of the sinus points of the face and base of neck, in addition to being relaxing, assists the release of excess fluids and debris. The client feels relaxed and usually experiences immediate and positive results from each session.
